Avon Girl Scout Troop 1084 Ready for the First Annual Dash Through the Snow 5K!

Avon Girl Scout Troop1084 Hosts 5K to Support Local Organizations

On Saturday, December 14th, 2013, Avon Girl Scout Troop 1084 hosted A Dash Through the Snow 5K at Grey Metal to collect food and book donations for the Avon Food Pantry and local children’s charities.

The Girl Scouts planned and organized the run to earn their Silver Award, which is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. The Award requires a minimum of 50 hours of planning, organizing and executing a sustainable event or program with little or no adult involvement.

Instead of money, the race registration fee was five cans of nonperishable food or five gently used children’s’ books. Over forty people from around the area participated in the race, even though it was a frigid and snowy morning. There was also a kids’ event, which included crafts and games.

Grey Metal Products, Inc. provided warmth and hospitality for the runners, and was the location for the race start and finish. Many other local organizations made donations to support the troop in achieving their goal.

The Girl Scouts plan on making A Dash Through the Snow an annual event and appreciate the support of the community.
