Screen Plays - Hollywood’s Golden Age on Stage presents a classic comedy of grand proportions entitled The Royal Family. The play was adapted for film as "The Royal Family of Broadway" (1930), directed by George Cukor and Cyril Gardner and starring Frederic March and Ina Claire.
Playwrights George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber take Shakespeare's dictums that "all the world's a stage where men & women merely players" and "the play's the thing" by applying it to a thinly-veiled send-up of the first family of theater, the Barrymore’s.
Only, in The Royal Family, playing February 9th - 18th, this stage production has the Barrymore’s called the Cavendish’s. Set in the home of Broadway’s most legendary acting family, conflict is always center stage as three generations of the Cavendish clan struggle with fame, egos and career-altering decisions. Outrageous road bumps and hilarious mix-ups are the daily fare for this eccentric, lovable group of stars and the supporting players in their lives. Life in the theatre triumphs in this affectionate look at the show always going on.
General tickets are $23.50; seniors are $21.50 and students are $15 available.
Tickets also be sold at any Wegmans location and available at the door starting one hour before curtain.
