On September 6, 2008, Hang Around Victor Day will pay tribute to Robert Michael Malley, the Founder of ‘The Battle of the Bands,’ a musical celebration of young, emerging musicians which has become synonymous with Hang Around Victor Day.
Malley was President of the Victor Chamber of Commerce until his untimely death on October 6, 2007. A passionate music lover, he launched the
‘Rob loved music and particularly rock and roll,’ his sister Patty Malley explained. ‘He wrote his first song on a plastic guitar that was a Christmas Gift from Santa.’ She went on to share, ‘As an adult, when he saw that many kids in schools didn’t have instruments, and music was one of the first areas cut in financial crises, he wanted to change that.

Families can stay through the evening to attend Victor Fest from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. This event offers fireworks, a rock climbing wall and the music of The Orient Express and Smart Talkers. Food and beverages will be available for sale.
Admission and parking are free for all events, although there is an entry fee for the YMCA’s 5K race/walk, the proceeds of which will be donated to the YMCA’s ‘Invest in Youth’ program.
