The Eastside Café, located at 303 Rt. 31 F in Fairport, will host an artist exhibition and benefit raffle on Tuesday, February 9th from 5-8pm. Proceeds from the event will support Love A Child, a non-profit Christian Humanitarian Organization in Haiti.

The Eastside Café is known not only for its tasty presentations, but also as a haven for professional and amateur café-art, created there and hung on the walls of this lively establishment.  The Children’s Wall is a light-hearted special feature of the Café.  Longtime supporters of Lollypop Farm and The Advent House, Chef Scott Foley and Manager Toni Foley wanted to do something art related to assist earthquake victims in Haiti.  When a dear friend suggested Love A Child, they embraced the opportunity to help by planning a special event at the café.

Bobby and Sherry Burnette are the Founders and Directors of Love A Child. They moved to Haiti as full time missionaries in July of 1991, where they minister to the poorest of the poor, overseeing an orphanage, remote medical clinics and a food distribution program. The Burnettes are in the trenches with the Earthquake victims helping to pull the injured from the rubble to transport them to their Medical Clinic in Fond Parisien, located 45 minutes from Port au Prince and 7 miles from the border of the Dominican Republic. To learn more about Love A Child, or to read Sherry’s online journal entries about the quake and its aftermath, visit www.loveachild.com.

On February 9th, a group of award-winning local artists will create a fine art piece on site, using water color, pencil and other media.  The piece will be displayed at the café for the enjoyment of its customers until it is raffled off at the end of the month. Featured artists include Rowland “Chip” Stevens, Phil Bliss, Harry Bliss, Dick Kane, Dick Roberts, Teri Barlis, and Jack Heister.  Other area artists have also donated artwork to be raffled off that evening.

There is no admission fee for this special event, but dinner reservations are suggested. Raffle tickets are only $5.00 each and now on sale at the café. The Foleys encourage community members to drop off crayons for the children of Haiti, in the hopes that it will aid in their recovery by serving as a form of art therapy.

Eastside Café is located just 4.5 seconds east of the village of Fairport. Call (585) 223-7463 for reservations, or visit www.eastsidecafepizzapastaandmore.com to preview some of the other artwork that was donated for the raffle.  This is the first of a bi-monthly series of events sponsored by the Eastside Café to foster a love of the arts and their community.
