To those people who display OUR FLAG on a pole, tattered and torn, please know that the ONLY time the American flag can be flown in disrepair is IN BATTLE. Otherwise, show some respect and take down the torn flag. If you can't afford to put up a new one, so be it. Please respect our country's flag and fly it proudly!

3/22/2010 And don't fly the flag at night (unless it is illuminated) or in inclement weather!

GOD BLESS AMERICA! We're definitely going to need it now!

As if those of us hard working, earining what we get and have, haven't supported those who don't, won't and refuse to work for a living long enough, now the clowns in Washington will make us pay more. I

I'm sick and tired of suppporting losers, addicts (smoking, drugs, alcohol), obese, and lazy people. I'm tired of supporting women who pop out child after child and live off the welfare tit (get the baby daddy to pay for it, NOT ME! and stay off your back for a while... I'm sure most know where babies come from) .

I can vent all I want but the clown troup in Washington did as they wished, NOT what the majority of the American people wanted.

What happened to this country?

About sex offenders living near school in Batavia. The police told all of you, this man is within his legal rights. As parents,YOU need to step up. STOP complaining and do something about the situation. Protect our children.START a NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH GROUP!

I am so sick of people continuously complaining about cats. Especially when you have NO idea what the circumstances may be. FYI: About 4 yrs ago I had a stray begining to hang around my house. I began to feed her and eventually she became my own. For the last 4 yrs she has been a part of this family. Well fed, groomed, and healthy. Far cry from what she was when I found her. However, she refuses to stay inside or at home. She wanders the neighborhood freely. There is NOTHING I can do to take the stay cat out of her. NOTHING! Thankfully I live in a neighborhood with understanding, compassionate people. They understand the situation. They feed her and let her into there homes at times. They love her like I do and they understand that she is a stray. They are thankful that I took her in and gave her a good home. So for you judgemental people who think it is ok to call us irresponsible, thoughtless, and inconsiderate, maybe you should find out what the situation is first.

3/21/2010 Jdow, I understand exactly what you mean. We had twin gray cats, both neutered males. One always had a "stray" streak in him, yet always spent part of his time in the house. After awhile, though, he would get terribly restless & scratch & meow at the door to get out. Just part of his nature one couldn't remove. Fortunately we live in a rural setting where most of our neighbors also have cats & understand this. In contrast, his brother never shared that same need to wander and still is happy to stay inside--never goes further than the porch. Cats have different natures as people do--and you can't predict it when they are adopted. Sad to say, the wanderer is no longer with us, but that does not make us bad owners. Unless kept in a sealed metal vault, a cat will always find some way out if he's determined enough. It is kind of you to provide for that stray. Thought you'd like to hear from someone who knows.

With all this talk about “wine in the supermarket” I think I have an answer to the problem. If the NYS hires the liquor store owners that will be put out of business by the Big Box Stores, and we all know that as soon as wine is in the supermarket, then Liquor will soon follow as it is Southern State stores. If NYS then gives the dispkaced owners the job policing the supermarkets and Box stores (being they are experts in the product) then there will be no jobs lost. If in fact the wine industry in NYS does really grow by 2000+ jobs, income from that growth could support the jobs given to the liquor store owners and not get wasted in the General Fund. for some pet project we do not need.

To the lady with glasses and a kid in the front seat of your hulking SUV traveling on Erie Station Road the morning of March 18 toward West Henrietta Rd, SLOW DOWN. You totally ignored the bus coming to a stop with its lights activated. The speed limit on this road is set for a reason.

My vent should reach the eyes of the DMV. Just because a person passes his reevaluation for their license doesnt mean they should get it. I personally know 2 elderly ppl who should not be driving and putting me in harms way. They should have to retake an actual driving test at a certain age. God forbid if anything happens...oh wait it allready did...shes lucky she didnt ram a gas pump..

3/20/2010 I think I missed a holiday yesterday,I didn't know it was "talk on your cell phone while driving day" yesterday. I was on the road all day around Genesee County & could not believe how MANY drivers I saw talking & texting!! Cars, trucks, tractor trailers, etc. The guy in the white corvette really stuck out texting as he drifted over the center line towards me,both hands busy texting on top of the steering wheel & the guy driving the 18 wheeler towards me as he also drifted over the center line while talking on his hand held cell phone. You people who blatantly DISOBEY the law stick out like a sore thumb too, you're not even trying to conceal it.

3/19/2010 Sure, if we're lucky, we get to be elderly. The dangers of elderly drivers are not canceled out by the number of younger drivers in accidents. They are BOTH dangerous. Some elderly drivers are in better control of their actions and reactions than others--those who need to surrender their licenses don't realize it and see their independence as more important than the issue of safety--and that can have tragic results, because once they find out, it may be too late for someone. Periodic road tests--more than a brief ride around the block--are needed. Also, doctors & law enforcement need to stop "cutting slack" to those they know are compromised--a brief jaunt of a couple of miles can be just as deadly as a 10-mile drive.

3/17/2010 I agree tobacco abuse at that age leads to life long addition. And a permanent position with the french fry counter.

3/17/2010 99.9999% of Accidents are caused by the young or someone on a cell phone or texting. Remember everyone will eventually be elderly! Maybe just ban driving altogether for everybody.

Why doesn't Batavia do something about the underage smokers on McArthur St. .They block half the street sometimes, causing a hazard for child pickup and dropoff, and sometimes in the youth center parking lot. There is going to be a child hit unless something is done.
jjracing
3/21/2010 PS, I will give you this--there ARE instances where parents DO control to an extreme, and deprive their kids of breathing space and creativity--everything is SO structured and programmed, it leaves no time just for PLAY and giving AFFECTION. That is just as bad as the other extreme & creates a bunch of tightly-wound, nervous, unhappy people with OCD. Back to the original post, if a so-called "busybody" saves a LIFE by noticing a hazard in the parking lot, then that's not such a bad thing to be.
KrisK
3/21/2010 Thank you for your service. I do think, however, kids do NOT choose drugs because they ARE controlled, they choose drugs because they have no positive direction at a very formative & critical time in their lives; insufficient discipline and a lack of sense of self-worth. Maybe people would not feel so moved to "nanny others" if those "others" had parents who did their jobs better--who raise their kids knowing there is more to life than a fake and temporary drug-induced "high".
KrisK
3/21/2010 Krisk, We have a serious drug problem today mainly due to the result of those who are trying to control others. Teenagers today are literally rebelling because of the laws and bans put in place against them and parents by today's society. They are limited on so much compared with those of earlier generations. I went into the military at 17 and if I was in their situation today I would of really reconsidered my choice and became a drug addict instead.. If they told me I couldn't go into a mall (while serving at 17) without an adult, or smoke a cigarette in a park, hang out in a parking lot with friends or etc. demostrates some reasoning why the country is in the worst shape it has ever been in. Busybodies with warped one sided views that think they need to nanny others is the majority of the problem.
wakeup
3/19/2010 Wakeup, underage smoking is hardly a petty issue, but I doubt you'll be convinced. It not only sets the stage for lung cancer, heart & other ailments, but kids who smoke are more likely to develop other addictions like drugs and alcohol. You want specific stats, you can easily look them up. They are not fiction. Deterring today's underage smokers can help decrease tomorrow's hard-core drug problem. Maybe not cure it altogether but every dent helps. I believe the poster's original vent was focusing on the issue of the kids loitering in the parking lot & presenting a safety hazard--to themselves and to others. Would you rather ignore that problem and be the one to inform that child's parent when they are hit? What if the driver is hurt trying to avoid them? Immediate safety is the real issue here--as is the parents' getting involved & finding something better for their kids to do!! The youths need to be held accountable for breaking the law, and those who provided the smokes.

3/17/2010 WASHINGTON — The House today overwhelmingly approved a ban on the mailing of cigarettes, sending President Obama a measure that could effectively put the Seneca Nation's tobacco entrepreneurs out of business.

Less than a week after the Senate unanimously passed the same bill, the House voted by a 387-25 margin to send it on to the president, who is expected to sign it.

The measure is aimed at ending the dodging of upwards of $500 million in tobacco taxes in New York state alone, the bill's chief sponsor, Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-Queens, said on the House floor today.

3/17/2010 Maybe its time to think about priorities instead of petty issues. I'd rather have police agencies using their resources going after hardcore drug pushers or sex offenders! Underage smoking has been going on for hundreds of years without concern. It has only been an issue recently due to the ANTIS!

Well this is more of an Alert to my fellow readers then a Vent. I recently went to lunch at a new Restaurant on Jefferson Rd , Henrietta., NY We arrive at 12PM on Sunday and were seated as normal and where given menus. Now note we are first time visitors to this NEW restaurant. After selecting our appetizer and drink the server then wished our main dish. It was hard been there was so much to choose from on the busy menu, but we selected from the menu given. After we finished our meal about 1PM and upon exiting the restaurant there was a box with LUNHEON MENUS. I took one to read at home. Well to make a story short, the restaurant pushes you buy items on the “DINNER MENU” not showing you the Lunch Menu at all, nor stating the times (hours) for “LUNCH” or DINNER any place on the menu! Because they say people like a bigger meals on week-ends. That maybe true, but at BIGGER PRICE ($5 more per item), and not even giving you a choice. They don’t even “OFFER” you a lunch menu.
george
3/18/2010 Well wily1
The answer I got back from them was and I quote. "On weekends we have found that people want larger meals". Never addressed the lunch menu nor the lack of what times "LUNCH" really is. Read the lunch menu by the front door sometime, note the price differences from dinner.
george
3/17/2010 if your talking about long horn then you didnt read the menu correctly. I have been for both and the lunch menu has the dinner menu on the back. they dont rush you to order and if you felt rushed just ask them to give you a few minutes to look. the take out menu may not always have all that is offered on the full menu. I highly doubt they are out to secretly take your 5 dollars.

We put wine in all the stores and let Liquor stores be the only place to buy cigarettes a good trade off. Liquor stores are good at checking proof and have bought the license scanners. This will help keep cigarettes from minors.

Wegman's gets their wine Liquor stores get to stay open.

3/16/2010 When they all run out of "Bad habits", George, they'll just start taxing the GOOD habits! Seems like the government has become addicted to a very bad habit, & it affects all of us--OVERTAXING!!!!
KrisK
3/16/2010 Nice try Chief
You and I know that will not work with Wegmans. It's all or nothing, and 2000 + liquior stores go by-bye. Wegmans would love that deal. Gigarettes are being taxes out of the market, for health reasons. Wine & Liquior are resession proof ( No health reasons) and they will soon tax that to death too. My My what will they do then????. I guess it is all in the name of "BAD HABITS"
