In September, the Livingston County Department of Health was awarded the Maternal and Infant Community Health Collaborative (MICHC) grant. This grant utilizes Community Health Workers as an evidence based best practice, and has a timeline of 5 years.
The role of the “Community Health Worker” will be expanded to reach out to high risk women of reproductive age. The objectives of the MICHC grant include increasing the collaborative efforts within Livingston County to improve health outcomes for women and children and to provide education on the reproductive life cycle with the intent of reducing unplanned pregnancies. Grant objectives tie in with the New York State Department of Health Prevention Agenda for Maternal/Child health.
The Livingston County Department of Health is very excited to begin this new endeavor to continue to keep Livingston County the Healthiest County in New York State!
