Recently there was an article in the [local paper] regarding plans to convert the former nursing home on main street [local town] known as the [former nursing home] to a boarding house. It is amazing that 2 public servants in the law enforcement field are looking to open such a home which it is apparent by reading the letter as well as the information they have relayed to others about their true intent. The sugar coating of trying to rent to the best people they can without discriminating against people on social services ,probation ,and parole is merely their way of saying that’s exactly who we are renting to. The amount of money from Social services paid to house ex-inmates/sex offenders or section eight is not only guaranteed money but quite .profitable. The problem is that the impact it will have on the [local town] community will be irreversible. The housing values will decline as no one will be in the market to purchase a home in the vicinity of a half-way house. As a property manager you can impose all the rules and conditions you like but that does not give you anymore authority over the tenants than any other landlord. If a tenant chooses to ignore your rules that only means you can take action as a landlord but unless they break the law the only action you can take is to attempt to evict them. It is bad enough in this day and age that people who never had to lock their doors are finding themselves doing just that to protect themselves . Know someone who is blinded by money signs is willing to welcome even more of the criminal element into our community..If this is such a good idea why don’t you open such a residence in the place you work or better yet in your own back yard and not at our expense. The people of [local town] are not naïve enough to believe that your intentions are genuine and will not set back and allow this to happen.
