Byron-Bergen Elementary students’ quest to make yogurt the Official New York State Snack has garnered well-deserved attention and support from many local yogurt companies. Alpina, Müller Quaker Dairy, and Upstate Milk Cooperative have all visited the school, bringing samples of their products. Students from grades 4-6 were recently invited to tour the Müller plant to see how yogurt is made. On June 6, representatives from Chobani brought their Chobani Soho Café experience straight to the students for a taste of Greek yogurt New York City-style.
The Chobani Soho Café is a one-of-a-kind yogurt bar with an innovative menu featuring fresh, artisanal ingredients and Greek yogurt. Chobani invited Byron-Bergen students to build their own yogurt creations, using some of the most popular recipes direct from the Café. Students lined up for:
• Peanut Butter and Jelly – Chobani yogurt, peanut butter, grape jelly, red grapes and peanuts
• Blueberry Power – Chobani yogurt, blueberries, chia and pumpkin seeds, walnuts and agave nectar
• Cucumber and Olive Oil – Chobani yogurt, olive oil, cucumbers, salt, mint and pita chips
Students were enthusiastic in their praise for the yogurt snacks – many snagging recipe cards to share with families at home.
