According to Family and Consumer Science Teacher Marcy Plandowski, in an effort to make her course more meaningful for students, she invited the Farchione family, whose children are students in Fairport Schools, and Dr. Cala to teach students how to make homemade gnocchi and pasta sauce, respectively.

As part of the eighth grade curriculum, students are required to plan and prepare a meal for family and/or friends. During the semester, students are taught the skills necessary to complete the project.

“Our Home and Career Skills course is taught using a hands-on approach,” said Plandowski. “We incorporate a variety of cooking labs where the students are able to apply the skills taught.”
