Eleventh grade Alexander student, Lydia Daley, has earned membership in the 2019-20 Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra, the highest level attainable in the school’s four-tier youth orchestra program. Students from across the region compete annually for a place in the prestigious group which performs concerts during the school year. The first concert will take place Sunday, November 10 at 3pm in the Hochstein Performance Hall in Rochester, NY. Students from 27 schools meet every Saturday to play and prepare for the complex and internationally renowned musical selections required for the orchestra’s performance schedule.
Daley is a member of the Alexander Central School District band, chorus and drama club and has been cast in the role of Ursula in the upcoming school musical, The Little Mermaid. For the 2019/20 school year, she was selected for Conference All-State and Area All-State for the piccolo. She has participated in All-Counties every year since the sixth grade. Additionally, Daley is a member of the Hochstein Flute Choir and has performed with the Roberts Wesleyan Honors Band.
The Hochstein School serves approximately 3,500 students from 12 counties surrounding Rochester, NY and is driven by its mission to “provide people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities with access to excellent music and dance education in a community that nurtures and encourages personal achievement.” In celebration of the schools centennial, Daley and other orchestra members will perform during the Live from Hochstein concert series on March 18, 2020 which will be aired live on WXXI 91.5 FM.
