Cheryl Grace Hodges (Birmingham) - September 1, 2020

Livonia, NY/Lakeland, FL: At age 76, Cheryl passed peacefully on September 1, 2020 at the Scott Lake Health and Rehabilitation in Lakeland, FL. She was born on August 30, 1944 in Batavia, NY to the late John and Isabelle (Hall) Birmingham. In addition to her parents, Cheryl was predeceased by the love of her life and husband, H. Thomas Hodges; sons, Rick and Mark Bohrer; and brother David Birmingham. Survived by her daughters, Amy (George) Anderson and Kelly Trader; siblings, Mark Birmingham and John (Sandra) Birmingham; grandchildren, Sidney Anderson, Emily Bohrer, Tori Trader, Amanda Trader, Allyson Trader and many other loving family and friends.

Cheryl was a mother, wife, sister, grandmother, stepmother, and friend to so many people. She was a nurse for over 40 years. She was a caregiver, a nurturer, and a straight shooter. She faced so much in her life. From being a single mother, to later helping care for and love three additional children, the loss of her husband, her parents, friends and loved ones, the big move to Florida, and most devastatingly, the loss of her two sons. She transitioned through each triumph and tragedy with grace and determination. She was a rock that others depended upon, and she took her job very seriously. Above all, Cheryl was a fighter, a survivor. Being so very ill since 2016 brought about new challenges. The transitions that were made were difficult, but she soldiered on, like only a mother could. On 8/31/20, she had a window visit with her local family to celebrate her birthday and share in love with her. She had a good day, and she said her goodbyes without even knowing it. The woman she was and the memories that were created will live on in her loved ones.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the team of Scott Lake Health and Rehabilitation for ensuring Cheryl was well cared for, loved and supported during her time with them.

Family and friends called on Tuesday, September 8th, from 11am-1pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, NY where Cheryl's funeral service was held at 1pm, following calling hours. Pastor Matt Finch was the celebrant and burial followed at Union Cemetery, Livonia. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an entity near and dear to her heart that she contributed to every year on her birthday.
